The Director of Cost Accounting will work under the direction of the Corporate Controller and the Chief
Financial Officer. The Director of Cost Accounting is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the
existing cost accounting functions in support of manufacturing operations and supply chain management
for all cultivation sites. Responsibilities include adherence to the monthly and quarterly close process,
oversight and review of all entries to the general ledger and account reconciliations related to inventory
and cost of goods sold, and analyses related to inventory, cost of goods sold accounts, and gross margin
in order to ensure the continued integrity and accuracy of these accounts on the Company’s consolidated
financial statements. The Director of Cost Accounting will have xx direct reports.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Develop, implement and maintain accurate costing methodology in ERP system
(NetSuite).
2. Perform month end close activities related to cost accounting including and not limited to
department expense variances (actual to budgets/forecasts), monthly revenues and
associated gross margin analysis.
3. Prepare various financial analyses related to manufacturing costs, inventory, and
expense information as needed for decision making support.
4. Set up new raw material, packaging, WIP, and finish goods items; create and maintain
production BOMs; maintain periodic cost rolls/updates.
5. Analyzes changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods, or services
provided, to determine effects on costs. Analyzes actual production costs and prepares
periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
6. Prepares estimates of new and proposed product or service costs for manufacturing
operations.
7. Provides management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and
profitability of products or services.
8. Lead and manage the quarterly excess and obsolete inventory review process. Ensure
compliance with periodic cycle counts and physical inventory and reconcile results.
9. Assist in developing and documenting policies and procedures, including system
requirements and internal controls to improve overall effectiveness of the company.
10. Responsible for G/L reconciliations for all inventory and cost of goods sold accounts.
11. Leads implementation of cost accounting for new cultivation sites.
12. Timely provide all auditor requests for the annual audit related to cost accounting.
13. Proactively find solutions and create best practices for the cost accounting function.
14. Be able to build relationships across the company.
15. Communicate effectively with both internal and external customers by providing
exceptional customer service.
16. Regular and consistent attendance is required and an essential function of this role.
17. Perform such other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required from
time-to-time as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and 5-10+ years of related experience and/or training; or
- equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in a multi-entity environment.
- Experience with intercompany transactions.
- MBA and/or CPA Preferred
- NetSuite experience a plus.
- Advanced level Excel skills.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to cannabis helpful.
- At least 21 years of age and authorized to work in the US.
- Proper employment documentation; reliable transportation and valid driver's license.
- If necessary, ability to work 7 days per week and to be flexible with schedule.
- Must be able to pass a thorough FBI background check as required to work in the regulated
- medical marijuana industry in the State of Arizona. All team members must also maintain
- fingerprint cards and be eligible to obtain Dispensary Agent cards.
- Environmental Requirements and Exposure, depending on work location.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting required.
- Staff Account experience is mandatory.
- Combination of 10+ years of progressive experience with industry (private and/or public) and
- public accounting.
